The Shoah Committee of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa invites you to an author's talk with Kathy Kacer
Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 2 pm, at the Greenberg Families Library, Soloway JCC, 21 Nadolny Sachs Pvt.
The Jewish Federation of Ottawa and Greenberg Families Library invite children aged 10+, their parents, and other members of our community to attend an engaging presentation with Kathy Kacer about the "Heroes of the Holocaust" who risked their lives to save Jews. An award-winning novelist, Kathy is acclaimed for her sensitivity and historical rigour in bringing stories of the Shoah to young readers. She speaks frequently to school-age and adult audiences.
This event offers a unique opportunity to hear about her writing process, the importance of preserving Holocaust memory, and how storytelling can help educate and inspire future generations.
Kathy will also give the keynote presentation, on a different topic, at the Federation's annual Yom HaShoah Commemoration on the evening of Monday, April 13. Please register separately for that event here.

Kathy Kacer is the acclaimed author of more than 30 books for young readers that focus on stories of the Holocaust. They include The Secret of Gabi’s Dresser, Hiding Edith, To Look a Nazi in the Eye, Broken Strings, Under the Iron Bridge, Two Pieces of Chocolate, To Hope and Back, and Last Known Address.
A winner of the Jewish Book Award (Canada and the U.S.), and the Yad Vashem Award for Children’s Holocaust Literature (Israel), Kathy has written unforgettable stories inspired by real events. She is published in 20 countries and travels the world speaking to young people in schools and libraries about the importance of the Holocaust and keeping its memory alive. She also lectures in colleges and universities about teaching sensitive material to young people. Kathy lives in Toronto with her family.
